Global Challenge is an outreach of Queens Road Baptist Church in Broadstairs. They are a charity that aims to alleviate poverty and suffering in the Soroti region of Uganda as well aiding to improve education and self-sufficiency for the people that they work with. As a part of a inter school initiative across Thanet many secondary schools have raised money for this worth while cause. Here at St Anthony's School we have arranged a non-school uniform day and a inter-school charity 5'a'side football tournament with a difference, its staff playing against each other rather than the students. Mr Evans and Mr Kelly came up with the idea and have managed to attract sponsorship from Margate FC who have let us use their pitches free of charge and Ramsgate Trophies who have donated a trophy for the winning team. If the event is a success we hope to make it an annual date in the calendar and increase the size of it every year so we can really make a difference to Crossroads School. Never know, maybe one day we can travel to Uganda and give them a match at Soriti. (-:

Our school is very excited to be working on a new project with UNICEF. The Rights Respecting Schools Award is a Unicef UK programme that aims to put children’s rights at the heart of schools in the UK. Pupils will look at their rights and develop an understanding of them though assemblies and PSHE lessons. This programme will embed children’s rights in our ethos and culture to improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. We are proud to announce we have set up a working relationship with Dane Valley Woods. This community run project is within walking distance from the school and it boasts a 13 acre site which consists of mainly young trees, shrubs, wildflowers and grasses. This will enable our students to access outdoor learning in a stimulating and safe environment. Our ASDAN students will be using the site weekly to help them achieve certificated awards and the site will be used for leisure activities. If you would like to find out more about our new collaboration please visit their website at http://danevalleywoods.org/
